​Great News!!

​Foothills Rural Community Ministry, a non-denominational, multi-program outreach organization located in Holland Patent, has successfully closed on a new parcel of land on which to build a larger and safer facility.  The location is at 8583 State Route 365 in Floyd, to the left of Priscilla's Restaurant.  This great occasion completes Phase One of the building campaign.

Foothills, which is non-profit and mostly volunteer-run, has provided food, clothing and much more to individuals and families in need for close to 40 years.  Serving 7 townships in rural northeast Oneida County, programs include a food pantry, pet pantry, thrift shop, back-to-school supply program for students, Christmas baskets, summer lunch program for kids, Food $ense and a coffee-house music program.

Foothills has rented space at the Holland Patent First Presbyterian church house for all programs since their inception.  They are extremely grateful for that long and wonderful relationship.  However, they have outgrown the facility.  The food pantry has expanded exponentially, currently providing food for close to 200 individuals every month.

What is next?

The Foothills organization will be building a one-story, safe, handicapped-accessible structure!  At their current location, there are steep steps, both down to the basement level for the food and pet pantries, and up to the top level to the thrift shop.  All must negotiate these stairs, and staff and volunteers must carry heavy loads up and down constantly.  Storage is limited.  Parking is a challenge for both customers and trucks unloading food and supplies.  Our new facility will have safe and ample parking for all.

Phase Two of the Foothills building project will include land clearing and preparation, concrete pad, driveway and parking.   The cost for completion of Phase Two is estimated at approximately $150,000.

Phase Three will be the construction of the facility.  In total, between 8 and 10,000 sq. feet of space are needed to house all Foothills programs. Estimates for such a structure are in the area of $350,000.  Fundraising will resume immediately for the Phase Two and Phase Three goals, including grant applications, fundraising events in the community, and donations from individuals and businesses.
