If you are interested in helping, please consider a donation of dog food, cat food, or special treats. These may be dropped off at 8297 Old Poland Road, Barneveld, NY 13304 or at Foothills during regular pantry hours. Volunteers are needed to help collect, shelve, and distribute pet food.

Sarah’s Pet Pantry Annual Report 2011
The Pet Pantry is totally self- supported through dedicated fundraising to support this cause. In 2011 we raised $4,617.32 through donations and fundraisers. We participated in the May faire at the Holland Patent Park, the Pet Expo in New Hartford, and the Remsen Barn Festival, selling handmade items and finding a lot of pet owners to spread the word. We raffled a donated Martha Deming cat print in August and drew a winner for a painting by Pamela Underhill Karaz in January. Thank you to these artists and to Trenton Station and Adirondack Art and framing for allowing this to be on display at their places of business and helping to sell tickets.. Other fundraisers include change canisters in local businesses and a Halloween photo op at Beaver Meadow Veterinary Clinic. We appreciate all donations from individuals, school groups and big store chains. We estimate that about 85 percent the ___ families using the FRCM food bank have one or more pets to feed. These people are very grateful to receive pet food. Sarah’s Pet pantry has been glad to give a hand in helping these people stretch their pet food dollars in these tough times. We have a very active group and many work hard to make Sarah’s Pet Pantry successful. Sarah’s Pet Pantry Annual Report 2010
The FRCM Pet Pantry Committee believes that if we can help people stretch their pet food dollars they may be able to keep their family pet, keeping those pets out of already crowded shelters. This group began as several women and has now become a group of about a dozen. Chairman Lois Reed and the core group go to stores and buy food as donations allow. At our monthly meetings we then rebag it into smaller amounts to pass out to eligible people on food bank days. Any Food Pantry customers are eligible to receive pet food. Members of our group volunteer on days that the pantry is open, to help give out pet food and to help carry groceries for folks. The FRCM people supplied us with some nice sturdy moveable shelving which is working out great. Our group has met each month since we originally had the idea and continue to look into sources of income and supplies. We are very grateful to be under the FRCM umbrella. Sarah's Pet Pantry seems to be the only pet pantry in our locale and people have been very supportive of it. Lynn Schwartz and Lois Reed talked to The Adirondack Foothills Rotary club on the 15th of December and they donated a check to be used for pet foods. Early in the summer Pete and Annette Mondi came up from Stevens -Swan Humane society with a Subaru full of food that was nearing its expiration date which we passed out. Many individuals have donated pet food or money. We appreciate all this support very much. The total of all pet pantry donations in 2010 was $3,580.00. We have spent $633.88 on food from June through December of 2010. Only money specifically designated for the Pet Pantry is ever used for pet food. The people receiving the food also are very appreciative and clearly love their pets. Sarah was a family pet of the Reeds’ and this is Lois' way of honoring a fine Labrador retriever's memory. |
